Course Aims
This course is intended to provide a delegate with an understanding of the requirements and procedures for the Raising and Removal of Speed Restrictions, in accordance with the current Network Rail Standards, Track Work Instructions and Track Engineering Forms.

At the end of this course the delegates will:
• Be re-appraised of the requirements for Raising and Removing Temporary Speed Restrictions
• Be aware of current standards and specifications relating to the raising and/or removal of speed restrictions
• Be able to identify both safety critical and non-critical track defects
• Have the ability to carry out a full practical assessment of track geometry, stability and physical characteristics
Pre Requisite Requirements
The following pre-requisites are required:
• Delegates should have in-depth knowledge and experience of the Permanent Way, and in particular Track Geometry.
PPE Requirements
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, they MUST be in possession of:-
• Valid P.T.S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
Certification
A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of the course. Certification has no expiry. Annual Assessments and Recertifications are required.
